Steel Structure Design – Renewable Energy
// Overview
The project involved the design of a range of steel support structures for solar panel installations across multiple locations in Mbarara and Tororo. The scope included both independent ground-supported frames and systems integrated with existing buildings. Each structure was designed to suit site-specific constraints, with careful consideration of load transfer, support conditions, and constructability. The designs incorporated environmental loading requirements, including wind effects, while maintaining consistency in detailing and overall system performance.
// The challenge
A key challenge was developing flexible structural solutions that could be adapted to varying site conditions, including differences in available support structures, geometry, and construction constraints. Integration with existing buildings required careful assessment of load paths and verification of existing structural capacity, while standalone systems needed to be efficient and stable under environmental loading. Maintaining consistency across multiple designs while accommodating variation was critical.
// The outcome
A suite of adaptable and efficient structural solutions was delivered, enabling deployment across diverse site conditions. The designs ensured safe integration with existing structures where required and provided robust standalone systems elsewhere, supporting reliable and scalable solar infrastructure installation.
